Facing a layoff

There are more than four million people unemployed in Spain, and similar figures in other European countries, but the economic crisis appears to have bottomed out yet, and layoffs continue. Here are tips to deal Alguns dismissal and, as far as possible, find ways to overcome them and be constructive.

Facing a layoff

The first step should be to see job loss in perspective and not take it personally. Talking with friends and family and try not isolated. The dismissal is not something we deserve and not something that reflects our capacity. Rather, it is unfortunate reflection of the working environment we are experiencing at this time.

Second is to take action on the domestic economy, assessing monthly expenses. Make a list of all major expenses for the coming months and try to cut as possible.

Find emotional and practical support from friends and family whose support and support you need especially now. The dismissal is not a reason to be ashamed of and is a current problem.

Be patient without losing hope. Be consistent in finding a job, but not obsessed. In a good time to start to spend more time with their children or other relatives, learn a new trade, language, even start a sport or other hobby now that you have more free time. If you have children and your spouse works, assume the household chores. There is nothing degrading - cooking, helping children with their studies and accompany them in their leisure activities is very rewarding.

Review the curriculum vitae. If you have been working many years in the same company, to tell all the skills and responsibilities you have learned during this time and present a short summary. Once we get on paper all the knowledge, will be easier for the unemployment office or employment agencies can advise us on employment opportunities.

Avoid being impulsive. It is better to go cautiously to possible shifts in our lives. Before going to start a new line or start our own business, it is important to listen to advice from others already in the field you wish to enter. And be careful not to invest all the money from our settlement in a new company.

Find other sources of income. There are other ways to make money that are not on the payroll at the end of the month. Giving private lessons, renting a room to a student, offering to make reforms, fixing clothes, gardening ..... Think about your knowledge and / or skills and how advertising (classified ads, posters in local shops and kiosks, forums ....).

Keep a positive attitude. While searching for a new job, is likely to be taken to cope with disappointment and rejection, especially if you work in a competitive sector. Resist the temptation to take these rejections personally.

Keep an open mind when sending a job application and re-evaluate our options, if necessary. Some people can see it working part time or do odd jobs. Others prefer to wait to find something better.
